Janel Parker Named Executive Director of Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission
PITMAN, NJ Janel Parker, MSN, RN, CNN, of Atlanta, GA, has been appointed to serve as the first full time executive director of the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC).
As executive director Ms. Parker will provide leadership and day-to-day management to the Commission, including oversight of the NNCC certification program. Her responsibilities include managing NNCCs certification and recertification programs, financial matters, strategic planning, administrative services, and marketing efforts. She will be responsible for keeping abreast on issues that directly affect the nephrology community, and communicating with related professional associations.
NNCC has experienced extraordinary growth over the past years. In addition to the Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) credential, NNCC now coordinates the certification and recertification programs for the Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) and the Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) credentials.
Janel has served in a variety of leadership positions over her 20 years in nephrology nursing practice. She is a past president of the American Nephrology Nurses Association, editor of Contemporary Nephrology Nursing, and a member of the Translation Advisory Committee for Diabetes Prevention and Control Programs of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is also a member of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) Accreditation Council, a member of the National Patient Safety Forum End Stage Renal Disease Advisory Committee, and worked as NNCCs director of testing, research and development since October, 1999.
Janel was one of the founders of NNCC (formerly the Nephrology Nursing Certification Board) in 1986/1987, and has served the organization in several capacities, including carter president. She also helped to form the ABNS in the early 1990's, and is a noted author on certification and nephrology nursing issues.
Janel earned her associates degree in nursing science from Purdue University, her BSN from Indiana Central University, her MSN from Indiana University, and has been a Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) since 1987.

The association is dedicated to advancing nephrology nursing practice and positively influencing outcomes for patients with kidney or other disease processes requiring replacement therapies through advocacy, scholarship, and excellence.
