Nurse Authors Honored with Writing Excellence Awards by
Nephrology Nursing Journal
Pitman, NJ Nephrology Nursing Journal (NNJ) presented its annual Writers Awards to nurse writers for outstanding contributions to the journal at the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) 39th Annual Symposium, in Philadelphia, PA, during the Opening Ceremonies on April 27, 2008.
Carol Headley, DNSc, RN, CNN, and Barry M. Wall, MD, received the 2007 Nephrology Nursing Journal Clinical Practice Award. Their article, Flash Pulmonary Edema in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and End Stage Renal Disease, was published in the January/February 2007 issue of NNJ. Headley is a nephrology advanced practice nurse and Wall is nephrology, associate chief, at The VA Medical Center, Memphis, TN.
Jane K. Gardner, DNP, RN; Charlotte Thomas-Hawkins, PhD, RN; Louis Fogg, PhD, RN; and Carolyn Latham, MSN, MBA, RN, CNN, received the 2007 Nephrology Nursing Journal Research Award. Their article The Relationships Between Nurses Perceptions of the Hemodialysis Unit Work Environment and Nurse Turnover, Patient Satisfaction, and Hospitalizations, was published in the May/June 2007 issue of NNJ.
At the time the article was written, Gardner was director of operations and nurse development, and Latham was senior vice president, clinical operations, Renal Care Group, Nashville, TN. Hawkins is an assistant professor, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Newark, NJ. Fogg, is an assistant professor, Rush University, Chicago, IL.
Jean Kammerer, BSN, RN, CNN; Glenn Garry, BS; Marguerite Hartigan, MSN, RN; Barbara Carter, MEd, BSN, RN, CNN; and Linda Erlich, MS, RN, received the 2007 Nephrology Nursing Journal Education Award. Their article, Adherence in Patients on Dialysis: Strategies for Success, was published in the September/October 2007 issue of NNJ.
