Nephrology Nurses Will Advocate for Patients During Kidney Disease Awareness and Education Week in August
ANNA members will educate legislators during the associations annual Kidney Disease Awareness and Education (KDAE) Week, August 9-13, 2010. Through this ongoing, award-winning campaign, nephrology nurses host special visits for lawmakers and their aides at dialysis facilities, chronic kidney disease (CKD) education programs, vascular access programs and transplant centers. During the visits, the legislators learn about kidney disease, treatment options and legislative issues facing the renal community. While visits occur throughout the year, KDAE Week serves as a focus week. More information about KDAE Week can be found on ANNAs Web site.
To supplement the tours, nurses share ANNAs "End Stage Renal Disease Briefing Book for State and Federal Policymakers: A Guide to Kidney Disease Awareness and Education, a booklet that presents the basics of end stage renal disease (ESRD) in lay terms, including details about underlying conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, incidence and treatment costs. ANNA has also developed fact sheets on nursing workforce issues, biomedical research funding, kidney disease incidence by state, and other health policy-related topics. Download fact sheets in the Health Policy section on ANNAs Web site.
