Letter from ANNA to key legislators requesting the inclusion of the 1.6% dialysis composite rate increase in deliberations of the House/Senate Conference Committee on budget reconciliation

November 22, 2005

The Honorable _________
United States Senate / United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator* / Representative**:

The American Nephrology Nurses’ Association (ANNA), represents over 12,000 registered nurses working with patients who have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) who are either on dialysis or have had kidney transplants. We are an active member of Kidney Care Partners, a coalition of groups representing ESRD patients, nurses, physicians, administrators, large and small dialysis provider organizations, pharmaceuticals, and others.

ANNA very strongly supports the 1.6% increase in the dialysis composite rate. We urge you to include the 1.6% increase in deliberations of the House/Senate Conference Committee on budget reconciliation. Allowing dialysis providers to keep pace with inflation assures consistently high quality of care, preventing expensive hospitalizations and other adverse outcomes which result in costly burdens to Medicare.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Sincerely yours,

Suzann VanBuskirk, BSN, RN, CNN
