The purpose of this letter is to provide the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) with a unified response from the nephrology community to the Draft Policy on Monitoring of Erythropoietin for Beneficiaries with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) that was released on July 8, 2004. In the interest of patient care, representatives of the broad nephrology community, including patient groups, providers, professional organizations, and industry have come together to present CMS with a consensus position and recommendation.
