Call for Technical Expert Panel Members: Practitioner Level Opioid Safety for Dialysis Patients

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted with the University of Michigan Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (UM-KECC) to develop practitioner level measures in the area of opioid safety for dialysis patients. The contract name is Kidney Disease Quality Measure Development, Maintenance, and Support (contract number 75FCMC18D0041, task order number 75FCMC18F0001).

UM-KECC will convene a technical expert panel (TEP) to inform the development of this measure. TEP input will be a critical component of this measure’s development. It is anticipated that the TEP composition will include nephrology trained pharmacists, pain-management experts, pharmacy informatics experts, patients, nephrologists, and dialysis facility nursing staff. The TEP’s discussion will provide an opportunity to evaluate the fundamental construct and validity of this measure given the novelty of evaluation of opioid prescribing practices in the context of dialysis Interdisciplinary Team medication reconciliation, medication management, and pain assessment activities.

To nominate yourself or other individuals for consideration, complete the TEP Charter and Nomination Form (available on the CMS website at the link below) and email it to by March 15, 2019.
