The Nursing Community Coalition thanks Senators for introducing the CARA 2.0 Act of 2018 (S. 2456), which expands the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) of 2016 to allow all advanced practice registered nurses to prescribe medication assisted treatment. CARA 2.0 would create a permanent solution so that nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and certified nurse-midwives are able to use their clinical training to help combat this national crisis. The provider-neutral language in CARA 2.0 will greatly expand access to patients suffering from opioid addictions.
