Job Position and Professional Responsibilities:
I am a certified nephrology nurse practitioner specializing in the management of patients with end-stage kidney disease in out-patient dialysis clinics, including those on home dialysis therapies. I provide comprehensive clinical care, and develop individualized treatment plans, and educate patients to support self-management and improve outcomes. I lead and support quality improvement initiatives, mentor clinical staff, and contribute to protocol development to ensure delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care. I am committed to optimizing kidney health and enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with chronic kidney disease.
Describe your qualifications for this role, and include past ANNA leadership positions:
Beginning my career as a dialysis technician, I have over 25 years of clinical, organizational, and advocacy experience, making me qualified as a director position with the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA). My leadership within ANNA has been both extensive and influential.
I served as Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee (2021–2024), leading key initiatives that advanced ANNA’s strategic commitment to equitable care. I continue to serve on the DEI Committee and currently lead the Michigan Chapter (MichigANNA #312) as President, having also served as Chapter President (2021–2022), President-Elect (2020–2021), and Health Policy Representative (2017–2020).
I am a new member of the Nephrology Nursing Journal Review and the Fellow of the American Nephrology Nurses Association Selection Committees, roles that reflect my standing as a thought leader and advocate for excellence in nephrology nursing.
As a Certified Nephrology Nurse and practicing nurse practitioner, I deliver advanced care across all dialysis modalities while championing innovation, patient education, and home dialysis expansion.
My contributions also extend nationally through speaking engagements, policy work, and published scholarships focused on health equity, professional resilience, and nephrology nursing leadership. As a Fellow of the National Kidney Foundation, American Kidney Fund Health Equity Coalition member, and recipient of multiple professional awards, I bring both credibility and vision to this role.
I am fully prepared to advance ANNA’s mission through bold leadership, collaborative partnerships, and a relentless focus on improving outcomes for patients with kidney disease and the professionals who care for them.
Describe your role in three ANNA projects/activities which support(ed) ANNA’s mission, goals, and objectives:
As an engaged and experienced leader within ANNA, I have had the privilege of contributing to several national initiatives that align with the organization’s mission to advance science, education, and advocacy in nephrology nursing.
In support of Science, I will serve on the Nephrology Nursing Journal Manuscript Review Panel, where I will critically evaluate scholarly submissions for scientific rigor, relevance, and clinical impact. This role allows me to help shape the evidence base that informs nephrology nursing practice and encourages research dissemination among nurse scientists and clinicians.
My commitment to Education is reflected in my work on the Fellow of the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association (FANNA) Selection Committee. This role involves evaluating the contributions of advanced nurse leaders who exemplify excellence in nephrology nursing. By supporting the recognition and development of high-achieving professionals, I help foster a culture of lifelong learning and leadership within the organization.
In the area of Advocacy, I served as Chair of ANNA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and continued to contribute as a committee member. Under my leadership, the committee advanced initiative focused on equitable care delivery and inclusive engagement within ANNA. This work helps ensure that the association remains responsive to the evolving needs of both its members and the diverse patient populations we serve.
These roles demonstrate my ongoing commitment to advancing ANNA’s mission through strategic, collaborative, and mission-driven contributions across multiple pillars of professional practice.
