We are thrilled to announce the winner of this year’s annual art contest! At the heart of our community is a shared appreciation for the intersection of clinical excellence and the human experience. This year, one particular piece resonated deeply with our judges and members alike for its profound depiction of the themes we hold dear.
The Winning Masterpiece
The top honors go to Herbert Esteban for his evocative work titled “Life’s Precious,” which captures the delicate balance and the inherent value of the moments we share with those in our care. Through his unique artistic lens, Herbert has managed to translate the complexities of the nursing journey into a singular, moving image.
In the Artist’s Words:
Each kidney represents a precious life, a gift that must be carefully nurtured and protected.
Patients from diverse backgrounds share a common desire: to live full, meaningful lives surrounded by love and support. Despite their condition, they demonstrate extraordinary resilience and determination. This art piece reflects the core values of care, compassion, advocacy, collaboration, resilience, expertise, and hope.
Every kidney symbolizes a life shaped by dreams, relationships, and experiences, including those of parents, children, siblings, friends, and loved ones. These stories align with our mission to provide compassionate care and support patients on their path to recovery. As a dialysis nurse, I strive to see beyond the diagnosis and recognize the human being who longs for a fulfilling life.
My patients have taught me that resilience is essential to living. Like the lotus that blooms in adversity, they inspire me to continually grow, refine my skills, and provide exceptional care. This journey has strengthened my compassion and deepened my sense of purpose, motivating me to make a meaningful impact in the lives of my patients and beyond.
