Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Adam Schiff (D-CA), along with Representative Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14), introduced the bicameral Future Advancement of Academic Nursing (FAAN) Act to strengthen nursing education and address nationwide workforce shortages. The legislation would authorize grants to expand nursing faculty and student capacity, modernize nursing education infrastructure, improve pandemic preparedness, and support recruitment of nurses from underrepresented and rural communities. The bill is supported by more than 50 national organizations, and the Senate version of this bill is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), John Fetterman (D-PA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Angus King (I-ME), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Tina Smith (D-MN), and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
