Naima Ogletree Receives DAISY Award for Nephrology Nurses Advancing Health Equity

ANNA is proud to recognize Naima Ogletree, DNP, MSN, APRN-BC, as the recipient of the 2025 DAISY Award for Nephrology Nurses Advancing Health Equity.

Dr. Ogletree has been a nurse since 1996, a nurse practitioner since 2002, and has worked within Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, since 1995. For more than 20 years, she has devoted her career to nephrology nursing, consistently demonstrating compassion, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to equity in chronic kidney disease (CKD) care.

Among her many contributions, Dr. Ogletree played a key role in the system-wide implementation of the revised eGFR formula in 2022, eliminating the use of race in kidney function calculations. This change placed patients across the health system on a more equitable path to CKD diagnosis and treatment. She has also led initiatives to improve end-of-life care awareness, address disparities in access to kidney transplants, and develop targeted education for patients with low health literacy—a factor closely tied to poor outcomes in CKD.

Her efforts have already had measurable impact. For example, through her transplant disparities project, she identified gaps in patient understanding of the process and created new education to support living donor kidney transplantation in the African American community. Most recently, she has focused on developing tools to help patients with CKD better understand their disease and actively participate in their care.

In addition to her clinical projects, Dr. Ogletree is known for her compassionate presence at the bedside. Patients consistently praise her communication, empathy, and advocacy, as reflected in her high Press Ganey scores and frequent referrals. She is deeply respected by both her peers and physician colleagues and was recently appointed to lead DEI initiatives for her division.

ANNA congratulates Dr. Ogletree on this well-deserved honor. Her dedication to eliminating disparities and advancing health equity exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award and the profound difference nephrology nurses make in the lives of patients and their families.
