Be the Voice for Kidney Health! Register for the 2026 ANNA Advocacy Forum Today

The 2026 Advocacy Forum will be held in Washington, DC, on June 8–9. This event gives each ANNA chapter the opportunity to send a representative to meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and all chapters, as well as interested student nurses, are encouraged to participate.

This unique event includes one day of educational sessions and one day on Capitol Hill, where participants will join nephrology nurses from across the country to advocate for policies that advance kidney health and support the nursing profession.

Hotel accommodations and most meals are included. Chapters are encouraged to assist with airfare when possible. If two members want to attend and share a hotel room, both are welcome.

Don’t miss this chance to develop your advocacy skills, network with leaders in nephrology nursing, and contribute to meaningful change.

Registration closes March 13, and participants must be identified early to allow time to schedule meetings with state legislators. If you have not yet considered attending, we encourage you to do so now.

If you have questions, please contact [email protected]. We look forward to seeing strong ANNA chapter representation in Washington.

Two Federal Bills Advancing Kidney Care and the Health Care Workforce Signed Into Law

Two federal bills relevant to nephrology nurses and the patients they serve have recently been signed into law.

The Honor Our Living Donors (HOLD) Act, signed on February 3, removes income-based restrictions that previously limited access to federal reimbursement for living organ donors. This bipartisan legislation helps ensure donors can receive support for expenses such as lost wages, travel, and caregiving costs, regardless of a transplant recipient’s income—an important step toward improving access to kidney transplantation. ANNA supported this legislation alongside many partners as part of our ongoing advocacy for kidney health and patient-centered care.

In addition, Congress reauthorized the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, extending its programs through September 2030. The law focuses on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of health care professionals by continuing federal initiatives aimed at reducing burnout and improving workplace conditions. While ANNA did not formally support this legislation or participate in the coalition advocating for its passage, we recognize its relevance to nurses and the broader health care workforce.

Take action: Members are encouraged to visit ANNA’s Legislative Action Center to engage on current federal priorities, including policies that advance kidney health and the nephrology nursing profession.

ANNA Member Spotlight: Pamela DePiola, DNP, ANP-BC, APRN-C, CNN

Each month, ANNA highlights the unique experiences and perspectives of a member with our Member Spotlight. This month’s ANNA member in the spotlight is: Pamela DePiola, from South Florida Flamingo Chapter #206!

Pamela says Nephrology nursing is unique because “we are able to help patients and their families in a profound way. Patients who require dialysis support present with very complex comorbidities to be managed, hence incredible bonds are often formed between patients and health care providers. We really make a positive difference in our patients’ lives on a very personal level. This population becomes more like your second family, and I find this very rewarding.”
