“I Want to Live: The Impact of Nephrology Nursing” Premiered at ANNA 2025 National Symposium

At the 2025 ANNA National Symposium held in Portland, Oregon, ANNA proudly debuted “I Want to Live: The Impact of Nephrology Nursing,” an inspiring short documentary created in partnership with award-winning filmmaker Carolyn Jones.

This powerful film follows nephrology nurses alongside the patients and families in their care, including the story of a living kidney donor and recipient in Seattle, participants at the Transplant Games in Alabama, and patients receiving hemodialysis in New York. Through these stories, “I Want to Live” captures the skill, compassion, and dedication that define the nephrology nursing specialty.

You can now watch the full documentary on ANNA’s YouTube channel. We hope you’ll:

– Watch the film to experience the moving portrayal of nephrology nursing excellence.

– Share it with colleagues, friends, and family to raise awareness of the essential role nephrology nurses play in kidney health.

– Be inspired by the stories of hope, resilience, and the promise of life that nephrology nurses help deliver every day.

ANNA Call for Abstracts for Webinar Topics

ANNA is pleased to announce the “Call for Abstracts for Webinar Topics”. Presentation level is important to the planning process to assure that all learning content levels are represented in the overall program. Using Benner’s “From Novice to Expert” theory, ANNA has adapted it into three (3) content levels:

– Advanced beginner: Primary focus is on the individual patient and family. Uses decision trees, algorithms, protocols, and evidence-based practice guidelines. Principles, based on experiences, begin to be formulated to guide actions.

– Proficient: More holistic understanding improves decision-making. Able to critically think based on experiences. Advocates for patient and family.

– Expert: Has intuitive grasp of clinical situation. Performance is fluid, flexible, and highly proficient. Incorporates evidence-based resources and nursing research into daily plan of care.

Webinar participants

Novice and experienced nurses and their associates who are engaged in the practice of healthcare informatics in any practice area.

Authorship of abstracts

The primary author/investigator submits the topic with full consent of all co-authors/investigators. The primary author will be the contact person for all future correspondence. Although a nurse should be one of the authors/investigators, interprofessional topics are welcome (e.g. physician, pharmacist, social work, etc.). ANNA members and non-members are invited to submit topics. Encore topics may be submitted for consideration.

Topics selected for presentation must have a presenter who is able to present for a future date determined for the webinar based on availability.

Topic submission and acceptance

Topics may be submitted throughout the 2025 calendar year.

Acceptance

Webinars may be accepted on a rolling basis. Notification will be provided to the topic submitter in the event that the topic is chosen for presentation.

To apply, please complete the application form via ANNA Call for Abstracts for Webinar Topics.

Share Your Story. Strengthen Our Voice.

Federal policy changes and proposed funding cuts are already disrupting kidney care—and we know the impact is being felt across the nephrology community. From staff reductions at key agencies to threats to Medicaid and safety-net programs, these shifts affect not just patients, but also the professionals who care for them.

ANNA is calling on nephrology nurses, caregivers, patients, educators, and advocates to share their personal stories. Your experiences help us show policymakers what’s truly at stake and give voice to the real challenges facing our community.

Stories may be submitted anonymously, and you can choose how your story is used. Every voice matters—especially now.
