| ANNA Member Spotlight: Princesita Garces Ph.D, MAN, RN, CCRN, CNRN Each month, ANNA highlights the unique experiences and perspectives of a member with our Member Spotlight. This month’s ANNA member in the spotlight is: Princesita Garces, from Texas Coastal Bend Chapter #281! Princesita says, “Nephrology nursing is unique because it blends long-term patient relationships with highly specialized, technical care. I will never forget one patient’s story, which was truly meaningful and inspiring. I cared for a patient who cannulated himself and only needed help connecting the lines. He was really taking charge of his health. One day, after I connected him, his phone rang a few minutes later, and he began yelling, “This is it, return me, return me.” Before he even finished holding pressure on his fistula, we heard the helicopter landing to take him to the transplant hospital. He held his access site as we escorted him to the helipad. Two months later, he walked into the clinic—not for treatment, but to encourage other patients not to lose hope, to take good care of themselves, and to believe that things can get better, just as they did for him. You truly become part of a patient’s journey, supporting them through chronic illness, celebrating milestones, and educating them in ways that empower their daily lives.” Learn more about Princesita and why your colleague loves nephrology nursing!
