How long have you been a nurse?
I have been a nurse for 4 years. Nursing is a call of passion. I transitioned from a successful career as a project manager in network services and marketing events manager in industry trade shows and conferences of over 20-plus years. I transferred my expertise of providing exceptional service through relationship building and conversation to achieving quality patient outcomes and care.
How long have you been in nephrology ?
I have been a nephrology nurse for 4 years. My husband encouraged me to start my nursing career in nephrology. His experience with hemodialysis sparks my commitment to create a positive, encouraging, and empowering experience for patients during their time on hemodialysis. Living with someone who has kidney disease, I share empathy, understanding, and compassion with my patients on their kidney disease journey.
What is unique about nephrology nursing?
I enjoy building relationships with my patients through dynamic conversations. I find the dialogue rewarding, knowing that the education, idea sharing, and constructive feedback of the disease process improves my patients’ well-being and quality of life. Nephrology nursing offers the opportunity to engage and support the patient’s goals and outcomes within their kidney disease journey.
What do you value most about your ANNA membership?

Share an interesting fact about yourself.
My husband and I love taking long road trips around our beautiful country. We drove the historic Route 66 starting in Chicago, IL, and ending in Santa Monica Pier, CA. Our next road trip is from Vancouver, British Columbia, through the west coast of our magnificent country to end in Tijuana, Mexico. We have a travel companion named Creole Charlie, a green stuffed frog, who has traveled the ribbon of highways with us.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working as a nurse?
I am enrolled in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Texas at Tyler. I am buried in lecture notes, textbooks, and UpToDate readings. Besides schoolwork, I take joy in serving as the health policy representative for the Dallas Chapter. As a chapter officer, I get to use my project management and marketing skills to promote nephrology nursing and advocate for my patients and their families. I find time to attend street fairs and festivals with family and friends. I make the time to travel to unique destinations around the world.
