How long have you been a nurse?

I have been a nurse for 37 years and have loved every year.

How long have you been in nephrology?

I have been in nephrology for 18 years.

What is unique about nephrology nursing?

The impact that nephrology nurses make on their patients.  Also, the vast amount of support from colleagues and the knowledge that you can gain from these colleagues.

What do you value most about your ANNA membership?

I value the many friends that I have made and the willingness of these friends to share their knowledge and help one another both professionally and personally.

What would you tell a new practicing nurse about nephrology nursing?

I would tell new nurses that nephrology nursing is an awesome specialty. ANNA has amazing mentors who are there to encourage the new nephrology nurse, and the amount of education within ANNA is vast. Also, there are various levels of certification that a nurse can obtain.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working as a nurse?

I enjoy crocheting and have made anatomical organs to help my students understand the organs.

Share an interesting fact about yourself.

I have 10 grandchildren – eight boys and two girls ranging in age from 21 to newborn triplets. The triplets were spontaneous and are three boys who were born at 24 weeks and 5 days. Many of my ANNA colleagues follow my daughter’s page and have been an amazing support for my family.
