How long have you been in nephrology?
8 years
What is unique about nephrology nursing?
We have a stronger relationship with our patients as we tend to see the same patients whether it is every day in an outpatient unit, or still somewhat frequently in an inpatient unit (like myself). We also have a unique opportunity to spend time educating our patients about treatment options, diet, fluid intake, and compliance.
What do you value the most about your ANNA membership?
I value the connections made, both professional networking and friendships. I also enjoy traveling to different cities for conferences that I might otherwise never visit.
What would you tell a newly practicing nurse about nephrology nursing?
Give it a chance! It can be very overwhelming at first, especially with the hours (sometimes early and oftentimes long), and the on call and unexpected late ER add-ons in the acute setting. If you stick around long enough, though, you will gain valuable skills that will give you lifelong job security.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working as a nurse?
I enjoy spending time with my husband, our dog, and 2 cats. I love to do home improvement projects around the house and go down to the shore in the summer with my extended family.
Share an interesting fact about yourself.
My husband and I welcomed our first child in October.
